Oops, not enough bikes

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

We just got back form Outerbike, a little sunburnt, and a little cold burnt at the same time, not sure what that is called.  We had a good time and a special thanks to all of the participants and organizers that made the weekend such a success.  One thing is for sure, we need more Tracer 29 and Spider 29 bikes, they were in such hot demand.    They are truly remarkable bikes, finally they are being noticed.  We need to do more demos, and get the bikes ridden.  Once ridden, twice buy.

Why do 29ers go better in reverse, than a 26?

We are working on refining the 29er geometry here at Intense. Like it or not, 29ers are here to stay. They were embraced by a ‘few’ very early on, but the most reluctant crowd to ‘love’ the 29 inch wheel is the hardcore all mountain rider. People that love to shred, jump, boost, huck, carve. The sort of rider that will ‘touch the rotor’ on the ground occasionally. With this in mind, we know that there is room for development in the 29er range of bikes. First, we play on the bikes. From there, we push harder and harder until we find room for improvement. Why does a 29er go better backwards? Its all in the rake, trail and offset, and a little bit to do with the clown riding the bike.

29er testing

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

I have been riding the same track for years now, all on a 26 tho. This week I have swapped to a 29er, to do a direct comparison between the 29 and the 26 wheeled bikes, and how we can make our 29ers even better. With the development of 29 wheels, tires, suspension and bike geometry. Combined with the increasing use of the 29 inch wheel, from fast rolling light weight roady style riders through to DHers bombing bike parks, we need to make sure every possible aspect of refinement of the 29 inch range has been covered. We want to make sure that our 29ers can put a smile on all of the 26 inch fans and the 29er fans, as well as convert some of the ‘haters’. I was a ‘hater’. We want our 29ers to give the rider the best possible ‘ride’, so you ride more, and get your friends to ride more.

And you thought the Tracer29 was too much for ya?

Tracer29 is turning haters into glorified fan boys! Another great review from the boys on the east coast yo!, Dirt Rag I will let the article do the talking, since they can write better than I can…beautiful images too!

Tracer29 Review

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

The MAY 2011 issue of Bike Magazine has a review of the Tracer29, that is quite glowing. Besides the review of our bike, the magazine has a lot of great articles…the magazine has progressively been getting more rad than it already was, so a definite must subscribe. They have digital subs too.

Tracer29 testimonial – against the grain

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

Good morning fans,
Today I am going to blog about the Tracer29. We showed this bike at the tradeshows in 2009, finally started shipping them in late spring/early summer (its all a big haze to me) of 2010, honestly the bike got off to a slow start sales-wise because, well, the Tracer29 is ahead of it’s time. You see, we have to first battle the 29er haters, they are an amazing group. Then you have to battle the current 29er weight weenie crowd that likes their hardtail, carbon, singlespeed 29ers who think a FS-29er is overkill. A popular sweet spot in the 29er game right now is 120mm-ish travel (like our upcoming spider29) so the Tracer29 just did not look appealing to people-on PAPER. Then people started to ride them, magazine reviews started coming in, real world riding, people doing demos, people riding their friends (bikes) and people are starting to fall for this bike like they did for President Clinton’s dog Buddy (or Bush’s dog Barney depending on which side of the fence you are on).

So, I get this email yesterday from a real cycling rebel, Kellen Tanner. We designed the Tracer29 to be an epic trail bike, big adventures in mind, burly terrain, tech, east coast gnar, west coast fluff, rocky mountain passes, etc, but never imagined chicks or dudes racing these bikes! let alone getting on the podium! I also heard from a local guy this weekend who has been riding a tracer29 on our local trails and he told me “man, I clocked my fastest time on the tracer29 this weekend, on the big xc loop!”…So there you have it, Tracer29 is starting to gain some momentum, maybe you too can be ahead of the curve?

Oh and congrats Kellen, thanks for your story.

Hello,

My name is Kellen Tanner. I am from Grand Junction, Colorado. I bought the New Tracer 29er going against the grain for a cross country race bike. I just wanted to say thanks for making such an awesome bike! I competed in my very first MTB race in St. George, Utah for the season opener of the Intermountain Cup Series. My decision to go with the Tracer was backed by finishing 2nd place in the Sportsman (CAT 2) Men’s 30-35 class. It was awesome to talk with the other carbon frame racers about how amazing the bike is. It helps when you have the confidence to blow by them on a gnarly downhill section! The bike and all the training made for a huge confidence boost that will carry into the 2011 season. I wanted to share a couple pictures with everyone at Intense and say Thank you. Also if there is any information on how to become a sponsored rider for Intense that would be great. Have a great week and I hope the rest of 2011 goes awesome!

Thank you for your time,

Kellen Tanner #447

t29 with hammerschmidt

Jeff posted a bit of a franken bike a couple months ago on our facebook, a couple 29er haters surfaced asking ‘why’? I say why not?…So I got an email today from a fan, asking:

Hi, I love where you are going with the T29 and 2951. How about a marriage of the two? What are the production prospects of a T29 model with a) a slacker headtube (say 67*) and b) a fork manufacturer putting out a 160 or even 180mm travel fork for a 29?

I am 6’3″, like 29er trail bikes but in the market for a good all-mountain bike that can also serve lift duty. This bike will ride my local trails in the BC and Alberta Rockies, road trips to Moab and will need to be able to chase my son down lift-park trails from Fernie to Whistler. What I really am looking for is a 29er in the mold of say the SC Nomad, Ibis Mojo HD, Yeti ASR 7 etc.

Is my imagined frame/fork/wheelset in the realm of the possible? If not, what are the constraining factors?

We replied with the bike we did a couple months back, and it is a stock tracer 29, available at your dealer.

Tracer29 in vegas clip

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Testing vimeo size…Don’t worry, Clay Porter can sleep at night knowing I made this clip. I basically found a SD card in my shorts after walking home from a long night in vegas and all I found were these 2 clips from the GOPRO guys.

G2 adjustable dropout

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

The new G2 adjustable dropout system as found on the new 2011 Tracer 29 adds a new level of versatility. The G2 not only offers adjustable geometry like our revolutionary G3 syetem found on the M9, 951 & uzz1 but also the ability to run any of the popular axle options for Trail/ Am bikes such as new 142 QR12, maxle, 135 QR and the next new rage.
