World Championships in Val di Sole, where to start?

The Bikes

Being the most important race of the season we thought it might be really cool to work on special bikes for Worlds. First Cody, our Art Director at Intense, did a few mock-ups of Australian and US flag color themed frames. From there, we started to contact our sponsors and all of them were on board with just a call, it’s always exciting to work with such a racing lover brands. Take a look at how good the bike looked after putting all the parts together.

The venue

Val di Sole it is known as the toughest and gnarliest track in the World circuit and, true to its name, this year was the more brutal version of all times. There’s no place to rest in Val di Sole and no place for the weak. Our boys were ready and looking good all week. Sure it was an extra motivation all the special stuff they’ve got for this race. And boy, they were looking good on track.

The qualies

Nik Nestoroff had the best qualifier of the season, qualifying 2nd and more in the tank for the finals day. He was looking agressive and showing to everyone that he had the speed to be one of the top contenders for the rainbow stripes. Jack had another great run and finished 11th, with Dean Lucas being really fast at the first splits times but making a couple of big mistakes at the end finishing 26th.

The race

Everyone was excited for finals day and everything was ready for our riders. Nik was the first to take the start, he had an average top section, but put on a clinic the rest of the track going from 17th to 4th place at the end. Great result for Nik, less than a second off the medals, great way to finish the season and with one more year in the junior category we can only expect good things from our SoCal kiddo.

Dean was the next one to take the start gate but not for long, as he got red flagged, meaning he had to do a re-run. He had the fastest split so far on his re-run but a crash in one the more technical sections ended up his options. His time at the first split was the 4th fastest of the day, which makes us think “what if…”.

Jack was the last one of the Team to take the start. He was on a mission from the very beginning, he hit all the lines perfectly and took the fastest time for more than 3 seconds. He stayed in the hot seat for a long time and ended on 10th place, fantastic way to finish the season!

The offseason

Now everyone is at home for some rest before training hard again for the next season. We will have the whole team back again in January in Temecula, California, for Team Camp. Can’t wait for the next season, 2017 it’s gonna be a great year for the Team!

Big props to Ivan Jimenez, our Tech Manager, who has decided to take on a new path for 2017. Everyone at the Intense Factory Racing will miss you man!
